The Qiang people are a minority group that have been known as ‘the people living above the clouds’. Taoping Qiang Village is an ideal place for you to learn Qiang people’s unique culture, language, art, and religion.  What's more, you could also explore the 'mysterious oriental castle' of the unique Qiang architecture. While Yingxiu town was the epicentre of the 8.0 magnitude earthquake that occurred on May 12, 2008. The remains of an old school have been kept until today for people to personally feel how the earthquake affected local people’s life as well as for science to study and learn how to save more lives if earthquake happens again in the future.

What To Expect

Taoping Qiang Village
At 08:30am your guide and driver from Sichuan Adventure will pick you up from your hotel and head for Taoping Qiang Minority Village, which is located about 150 kilometers (93 miles) north of Chengdu. On the way, you will first witness the fertile farmland in the countryside of Chengdu and then enjoy the views of great mountains near Taoping village. Taoping Qiang Minority Village has a long history of over 2,000 years. Walking around the houses and exploring the watchtowers can be a lot of fun here.

The Qiang people inhabit in the mountainous areas, and the watchtowers at Taoping Qiang Minority Village were used in the past to store their weapons and food, as well as defend their village from invading enemies.

You will have lunch at a Qiang family courtyard in the village.

In the afternoon, you will take a walk around the town of Yingxiu, which was the epicenter of the 8.0 magnitude Sichuan Earthquake that occurred at 14:28, May 12, 2008. The relics of Xuankou Middle School in this town have been kept here after the tragedy to commemorate the lost ones. There were 1527 students and 133 teachers in the school when the earthquake happened, of whom 55 people died.

After visiting the school, you could walk around and see the new streets, buildings, houses and local people's life which was rebuilt after the earthquake.

In the late afternoon, drive back to Chengdu and your driver and guide will send you back to your hotel.
