Known as the "photographer's paradise", the Jinshanling section of the Great Wall, located about 130 kilometers northeast of downtown Beijing, is far enough from the metropolis to see far fewer tourists than Badaling or Mutianyu. Jinshanling remains wild, ruined, preserved, original and is a little more inaccessible. The landscape here is really powerful, and there is no doubt that it is a distant territory. The green mountain is colored with flowers in spring. In summer, with its exuberant trees and herbs, it is much less hot than elsewhere. In autumn, its chestnuts and persimmons always attract citizens. In winter, the snow-capped mountain makes the wall more imposing. Jinshanling is the start (or end) of an adventurous 5 hour hike to the terminus of Gubeikou. If you're looking for real excursion experiences, not just a photo stop at famous landmarks, then this is your hike.
