Overview

From wealthy merchants to persecuted refugees, the Jewish Community in Shanghai witnessed its own set of trials and triumphs during its fascinating history. This walking tour will visit the climax of that history, when over 40,000 Jews fled to Shanghai to escape persecution prior to and during WWII, only to face a new set of challenges once the Japanese took control of Shanghai, confining the refugess within a Jewish Ghetto.

Now 80 years later, on this walking tour we will dive into the fascinating lives of this little-known community and experience the legacy that this embattled community has imprinted on Shanghai.
