Longmen Grottoes
When Emperor Xiaowen decided to recreate at Luoyang a monument to his Buddhist faith and dynastic ambitions,Long men was where he chose.
Over 500 years artists found these limestone cliffs of the Yi River fitting material for their religious faith and imaginative renderings.
Their legacy is a sublime collection of Chinese stone sculpture of the Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties.
