Overview

The Wulingyuan Landscape Area is made up of several national parks, the most famous of which is the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, which displays impressive Karst sandstone pillars, covered with subtropical rainforest. The Hallelujah Mountains in director James Cameron's movie AVATAR were inspired by these settings.

On the way to the Guilin region, we visit the aesthetic village of Furong Zhen the Hibiscus, the ancient Fenghuang, and the Dong settlement of Chengyang with its Drum Towers and Bridges of Rain and Wind.

The landscapes of Guilin and Yangshuo are some of the most repeated in Chinese art: karstic pyramidal peaks that emerge skyward from the waters of a tranquil river (the Li) and hundreds of rice paddy terraces (those of the Dragon Column of Longji).
