What To Expect

De Sheng Bao
Your English speaking tour guide will pick you up from the lobby of your Datong Hotel or Datong Railway Station. Then heading directly to Desheng bu Great Wall which takes about 1 hour.

The city of Datong was a strategic military town fought over by rival groups throughout history, because of its location on the border between different cultures, nomadic and agricultural. Datong is called “the museum of the Great Wall” by some scholars because of its preservation of abundant wall relics which dates from the Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC) to the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).

Different from the well-preserved and restored sections of the wall in Beijing like Badaling and Mutianyu, the Great Wall in Datong is mostly composed of ruins built of packed earth rather than brick. The majority of the remains you can see now are from Ming Dynasty.

Deshengpu Fortress was a key access and trading hub between the central plain and the Mongolian areas. In the Ming Dynasty, a market was set up here for the merchants of the Han and Mongolian tribes to do business.

Follow your tour guide to explore the local village and ruins of the Great Wall, feel free to ask questions if you have.

Enjoy lunch in the local village, then heading to Zhenchuan Kou Great Wall which takes about 1 hour, relax on the way and enjoy the beautiful countryside view along the way.

Zhenchuanbao is one of the five "Inner Fortress" in history. The wall here mostly made of earth tamped down between planks in layers one on top of the other. The earth rammed wall is hard and firm, it still well kept despite of the wind and rain for the past 500 years.

Follow your tour guide to hike along the ruins of the Great Wall which stretching to the fields. Be amazed by the beautiful and peaceful surroundings.

After the tour, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Datong or Railway Station.
