Overview

During this one day Chengdu suburb walking tour, you will first take a walk at Chengdu’s earliest and largest wetland park, and enjoy the beauty and fresh air of the lakes, trees and flowers. Then we will drive further to the southern countryside and explore the 150-year-old Tongzhi Pottery Kiln which is still used today. At last we will visit the beautiful riverside ancient town of Huanglongxi and explore its old street, interesting souvenir shops and tea houses. If you like, you may also sit down at a riverside teahouse and try a cup of tea, just do as the locals do.

What To Expect

Chengdu

At 09:00am your guide and driver will meet you at your hotel in Chengdu and then you guys will drive about half an hour to Bailuwan Ecological Wetland Park located in the southern suburb of the city. This is a popular place where many locals relax and do exercises such as walking, running or cycling at weekends and holidays. You will spend about 1.5 hours wandering on the greenways with flowers and plants and enjoying the beautiful lake views.

Shuangliu County

After that we will drive about 40 minutes further south to explore 150-year-old Tongzhi Pottery Kiln located in the beautiful countryside. After arriving, we will take a visit of their workshop and see how they shape potteries. Then we will walk around the 150-year-old pottery kiln and take a close look.

Huanglongxi Ancient Town

Out last destination today is Huanglongxi Ancient Town, and it takes about half an hour to drive there from the pottery kiln. With a history of more than 1,700 years, Huanglongxi Ancient Town is a good place to learn about the local people’s life on Chengdu Plain in the past, when the town was very prosperous along the ancient Silk Road, through which the silk and tea products from Chengdu Plain were transported to Myanmar, India, and Tibet.

There are still about 76 old houses in the town that were built in Ming (AD1368-1644) and Qing (AD-1644-1911) Dynasties. The town itself has some authentic looking architecture, you can take a walk on the old streets to see the old houses, interesting souvenir shops, and some small temples. You may also wander along the river to enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Then guide and driver will send you back to your hotel in Chengdu after your visit of Huanglongxi. It takes 45 minutes to one hour to drive back to your Chengdu hotel.
