What To Expect

Hangzhou Songcheng
Eight hundred years ago, Lin’an (present day Hangzhou) was established as the capital of the Southern Song Dynasty (1127–1279), which is an important part of Hangzhou’s history. Today, Song Dynasty Town, the largest theme park of Song Culture in China, reproduces this legendary history. “Give us one day, we ll give you one thousand years!” is the special slogan of Song Dynasty Town.

By strictly following the construction methods of the Song Dynasty, Song Dynasty Town is arranged in an original Song style. Based on the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival (清明上河图) by the noted Song artist Zhang Zeduan (张择端), Song Dynasty Town reproduces precisely the flourishing scene of the Song capital. In the town, tourists can experience the daily life of a typical Song Dynasty resident.

Song Dynasty Town is situated in the southwest part of the West Lake scenic area, bordering the Qiantang River (钱塘江) in the south and lying close to Five-cloud Hill (五云山) in the north. Covering an area of 0.2 square kilometers, it falls into six sections: the Reproduction Section of Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival (清明上河图再现区), Nine-Dragon Square (九龙广场), Song Town Square (宋城广场), Immortal’s Palace on the Mountain (仙山琼阁), Southern Song Imperial Palace (南宋皇宫), and Southern Song Customs Garden (南宋风情苑). Inside these sections there is one vast panorama of the prosperous Song capitals: Bianjing (the present day Kaifeng in Central China) and Lin’an (the present day Hangzhou).

Highlight
Romance of Song Dynasty (宋城千古情) in Song Dynasty Town is a must-see show. It is regarded as one of the top three shows in the world along with "O" show in Las Vegas and the Moulin Rouge of France. Using artistic forms of singing, dancing, and acrobatics, it mainly showcases the local allusions and folklore of Hangzhou such as the Legend of the White Snake (白蛇传), the Butterfly Lovers (梁山伯与祝英台), and stories of General Yue Fei’s leading the defense against Jin invaders (岳飞抗金) etc. It applies high-tech visual and audio techniques to enhance its stage effect, which definitely will give tourists a ground-breaking visual feast.
