What To Expect

Gubei Water Town
Your friendly tour guide will come to pick you up in your hotel lobby at prearrange time. Hop aboard your air-conditioned vehicle and heading to Gubei Water Town directly. It takes about 2 hours drive. Your tour guide will explain the related history and stories about the Great Wall on the way. You will also enjoy the beautiful countryside scenery. 

Upon arrival, accompanied by your tour guide, start your walking tour to discover the charms of the Gubei Water Town. Gubei Water Town is a replica of Wuzhen Water Town in the Southern China. There are 6 areas in Gubei Water Town including Old Barracks Area, Minguo Street Area, Water Street Area, Wonglong, and etc. You will find many interesting shops, tasty restaurants, and distinctive hotels there.

Your will enjoy a delicious local lunch in the village.

Afterwards, you will be taken by a cable car to reach the top of the Simatai Great Wall. You will have some free time to hike around, enjoy the beautiful sceneries in the area ,and overlook the entire Gubei Water Town.  When you are ready to leave, you will take the cable car back to the main entrance.

Distinct from other developed sections like Badaling, Juyongguan and Mutianyu, renovations at Simatai have focused only on essential reinforcement work. Its original appearance is still preserved to let you feel the truly historic atmosphere.  Simatai section was constructed under the supervision of Qi Jiguang, a famous general in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644). It stretches 5.4 kilometers (3.4 miles), and is separated into eastern part and western part by Mandarin Duck Lake. Simatai has 34 beacon towers, they are relatively close to each other, with the average distance apart about 140 meters (460 feet).  Presently, only the eastern part from No. 1 Tower to No. 10 Tower has been restored and officially opened.
