China Travel Information

China

China is a very unique place and it is one that is attracting more and more visitors each year.  This is a vast country with a population that accounts for a fifth of the world’s population, it really does have something to offer all visitors.  There are some amazing attractions here that are beyond compare so it really is not a place for a short break!

China is one of those places that has the ability to dazzle you and make you feel humble at the same time.  In recent years there has been a strong economy here and as a result there has been a great deal of development.  Some of the larger cities are reminiscent of cities like New York and Chicago – filled with high rises and shopping malls.  However, venture out beyond that and you can truly experience the traditional side of Chinese life.  This is one of the reasons that car rental is a good idea in China – you can see so much more and do it at your own pace.

So what can you see here?  China is home to the Zhanjiajie’s Yellow Dragon Cave – the largest of its type in Asia.  In fact there are plenty of great caves in China including the Silver Cave at Yangshuo and the Crown and Reed Flute caves at Guilin.  Alternatively head to Chengdu where you can visit a number of Buddhist attractions including the mountain of Emei Shan and the Leshan Grand Buddha.

While we do recommend a hire car in China to get around, don’t forget that many Chinese people would rather cycle from one place to another.  You can hire a bike when you are there and there are plenty of cycle routes to choose from, including one that runs alongside parts of the Great Wall.  The Great Wall of China is one attraction that should never be missed.  Over 2000 years old and with a length of more than 5400 km, the wall is just 70 km from Beijing.  The proximity to the city means that this particular section is popular with tourists but there are many other sections that are not as busy.

Finally, don’t miss the opportunity to pick up some silk fabric and Chinese tea while in Hangzhou, the ancient capital of the country.  This is a popular destination for tourists, both foreign and domestic.  Make sure you visit the West Lake area, a very scenic part of the region.
